Plum Sauce is a tasty Chinese sauce which is excellent for dipping spring rolls, pork, besides roast duck roast duck. Salty Chinese plums and sugar simmer together and the flavor balances correspondingly with chilli, ginger and rice vinegar to make a rich and tasty jam.
It’s the sauce of Hong Kong, certainly a classic favourite. Lee Kum Kee, or LKK as it’s famously known, originated in a Guangdong village in Shenzhen, by chef Lee Kum Sheung at an oyster shop during 1888.
Surprisingly he discovered, after have left a barrel of oysters to ferment, they had subsequently formed a tasty and delicious rich brown liquid. Which became today’s oyster sauce, consequently forming the LKK brand.
Over four consecutive generations the growth of the company has continued is now a world famous, award winning producer.
The company base location is in Hong Kong while its products are present in over 100 countries worldwide. They sell also to China, and furthermore simultaneously many overseas markets. These include North America, Europe, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
Its primary brand, Lee Kum Kee is popular throughout China and hence the overseas Chinese community. Lee Kum Kee was infact the “Most Popular Brand On-line” at the 2004 Hong Kong Top Brand Awards.
